Life with Football

As the whole world is gripped in football fever, a thought comes to my mind and should come to mind of every indian.
Why a country of more then 1 Billion ( still going strong) doesnt have a team competitng at the biggest sporting spectacle on this earth?
There have been lot of notice that Cricket is given undue preference over other sports. But is it really the game that overshadows or the people attached to it? What has made cricket so popular in india? Is infrastructure the issue? What can government do to make other sports wide spread?
All these questions are raised very often and they die down soon enough. Lets compare the two games in terms of what you need to play them. Cricket needs a cricket ball, a bat and six stumps(often that is also not a pre requisite, u can make do with ur own arrangement like some sticks of bricks in place of stumps). Football requires "football". Is the cost of these basic things so different...i bet not much. Then what is the matter?
Lets go to other aspect..'laying field'. As far as cricket is concerned.. one can play it in streets, on the roof literally anywhere u need minimun of two people. Football....hmmm u can also try it in street but wont be good enought if you have less number of people to play.
So where does the difference lies?
Will discuss more on that later...gotta go
Happy Reading
Surya
