Philanthropy

I was amazed to see the news two days back that Mr. Warren Buffet has decided to donate around USD $37b to Gates Foundation.
Just tried to estimate how much is this amount, around 25% of indian Foreign Currency reserves, around 30% of market capitalization of BSE and so on. So we get that the sum donated by Mr. Buffet is pretty huge. Now i hear that Mr. Jackie Chan has decided to donate half of of his wealth that works out to be around 500m HongKong Dollars.
What is the reason that a person decides to donate his hard earned wealth? and why such spurt now?Answers to these questions may be with the donars only, we may just do some guess work.
Are they following the Maslow's theory of Motivation taht everybody seeks next level of needs and finally Self-actualization?
Interesting thing is that the announcement came right after Mr. Gates's announcement of retirement from day to day activities of Microsoft within two years. What ever be the reason i just want to laud the gesture as the Foundation will use this money to try and eradicate top 20 deceases from the world. Top priority is AIDS, which has brought down life expectancy in South Africa to aroud 40 years.
These people may have just staarted a trend and many will follow soon. These initiatives will go long way in making sure that the world's worst problems get the proper attention and proper resources.
Just hope that there are more of Mr. Buffet and Mr. Gates who have some concern for the poor and under privileged childern of God...!

Life with Football

As the whole world is gripped in football fever, a thought comes to my mind and should come to mind of every indian.
Why a country of more then 1 Billion ( still going strong) doesnt have a team competitng at the biggest sporting spectacle on this earth?
There have been lot of notice that Cricket is given undue preference over other sports. But is it really the game that overshadows or the people attached to it? What has made cricket so popular in india? Is infrastructure the issue? What can government do to make other sports wide spread?
All these questions are raised very often and they die down soon enough. Lets compare the two games in terms of what you need to play them. Cricket needs a cricket ball, a bat and six stumps(often that is also not a pre requisite, u can make do with ur own arrangement like some sticks of bricks in place of stumps). Football requires "football". Is the cost of these basic things so different...i bet not much. Then what is the matter?
Lets go to other aspect..'laying field'. As far as cricket is concerned.. one can play it in streets, on the roof literally anywhere u need minimun of two people. Football....hmmm u can also try it in street but wont be good enought if you have less number of people to play.
So where does the difference lies?
Will discuss more on that later...gotta go

Life and Times of Surya

This is just for information of people who dont know me. I have recently joined a company at Vadodara. Being new to this place i dont know anybody. Living here for one month have taught me why 'Man is called a Social Animal'. This is specially true when u have five day week and for weekend you are left with nothing to do.

But this one month i spent productively. Trying to dwell in past and finding out what i did my whole life. In management language doing "Cost- Benefit" analysis of my life. Did i gain anything by spending 26 years of my life? (i dont have problem in revealing my age....:))

This analysis proved to be helpful as i came to know what i did in past so many years, yearning for something and following something. Was i sure of my destination or just follwoing what others wanted me to?

Finally i concluded that my life has been a "Break-Even" game. I have spent so many years and got back just equivalent ( no +ve gain though).

Result is now to make some sense out of my life i have to work more and more so that "cost-
Benefit" analysis is in my favour before we disslove this partnership with life.

These are my deep and dark secrets, which i share only with few people and you are the chosen one..!

First One

Hello Everybody!

This day will be marked in the history (i dont know in golden letters or what) as an auspicious day when some one with such intelligence ( mind you, there is no adjective used for intelligence) started his own blog.
The purpose of this blog is

  • To bring "World Peace"
  • To help in bringing countries together.
  • To help in saving our culture from extreme 'Westernization'
This Blog will discuss topics ranging from politics to music, astrology to nano-technology, war strategies to honeymoon plans.

This Blog will contain only non-vulgar, authentic and non-pirated stuff.

Please dont ask me 'how' all this is possible in a world where 'Atomic Energy/ Nuclear plans are more highlighted then any 'Peace' initiative, Where people are looking for a excuse to kill each other (sorry guys this line is taken from movie "Rang de Basanti"). So please dont ask how this blog will succeed in meeting its purpose bcos i want to leave something for readers imagination.

Finally comments of the readers (if there are any) will be appreciated.

Please log on to this blog more often then regularly.

Happy Reading
